When did catering costs become so ridiculously expensive? I have been shopping around for a caterer and I'm blown away by their prices. Especially since what I'm requesting is quite simple. Or, so I thought.

Originally, we planned on serving cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at the reception. Let me back track before you think I will be starving my guests. We're not actually having a ceremony. The Mr. and I will tie the knot in front of our immediate family only. The rest of the guests will only attend the reception a/k/a the big bash. In light of that, the party will start pretty late and most people will/or should have come already eaten. To make a long story short, it turns out just hors d'oeuvres is more expensive than a buffet, for example. Something about having to make each piece individually (x3) for the number of guests we're having... So, as much as I had envisioned cute little delicacies like these, it's just not happening.

We're quite OK with that because we have something better up our sleeves that we can't share just yet. It's mighty good though, mighty good. Let's just say, it has something to do with the food truck craze!

Wedding Talk

Let's talk wedding! Don't worry, I promise this is not going to turn into a wedding blog...I just want to share a few preliminary details with you guys. We've decided to get married this summer. Something relatively small. I actually feel silly calling it a wedding because it's just going to be a big dance party. None of that stuffy sit-down dinner or long introductions. Just a few passed hors d'oeuvres, good drinks and better music.

I am a big party planner at heart! I have already envisioned the event my in my head time and time again. I immediately thought of yellow as one of the colors for the wedding since it will take place in the summer. Yellow is fresh and fun! I also want to incorporate teal, turquoise and gray.

The style of the event is definitely going to have a vintage twist. I have loved birdcage veils forever and a day. I plan on wearing one for a small ceremony I will have with my family before we take off for the big party!

The Mr. has agreed to wear this 50's inspired tux...This makes me very happy in the heart!

As for the flowers and decor, I haven't decided yet, since I don't have a venue. The place I am thinking of though is perfectly white and a blank slate allowing me to be as creative as I like. These flowers are absolutely gorgeous!

New Year & New Beginnings

Seems like the older we get, the faster time goes by. Or is it that time flies when you're having fun? Either way, 2011 went by ridiculously fast. Like lightning speed type fast. Let's revisit my 2011 resolutions and reflect, shall we?

1. Save $$. This falls on my list every year. Will probably be on my 2012 resolution list as well. I did good in 2011, real good. Damn proud of myself if you ask me. If you know me at all, you know how difficult it is for me to save.

2. Buy property. This resolution did not happen because it just wasn't the right time. 2012 looks promising!

3. Exercise and meditate at least 4 times a week. Big FAT FAIL. Surprising because this is the one I tend to keep every year. I didn't dedicate the time I should have to exercise in 2011.

4. Be happy. SUCCESS.

I guess now is a better time than any totype up my 2012 resolutions:

1. Save $$. Next year is a big year, saving money is a must.

2. Buy property. If the time is right this will be accomplished.

3. Exercise and eat healthy. I have to get in shape for the wedding.

4. Kick butt in grad school.

5. Be Happy.

Wow, how boring am I? Same list as last year.

What is that you say? What wedding do I have to get in shape for? Why is it going to be a big year? Oh yea, because I'm engaged!

The Mr. popped the question last Monday and I couldn't be more thrilled! Great way end the year!

Looking forward to a spectacular and exciting (and probably overwhelming) 2012.

I randomly received an email from an old friend this week who came across my blog. In old, I'm talking about I haven't seen or spoken to her since middle school. In her email she stated that my blog, and I inspire her. Me and this humble little blog inspire her? I know, I was shocked to.

I often don't have time to blog and don't really give this blog the attention I should. I am often at a loss for what to write about so I don't bore the death out of my readers. I, like many fellow bloggers, receive nasty comments and opinions from people that sometimes really make you want to throw in the towel and resign from blogland. However, then there are those others, like my beautiful middle school friend, who justify the reason why we write. There are those few readers who really are inspired by you. Who really do read what you have to say, everyday, and somehow, via the wonderful word of the Internet, you have touched their hearts. OK, or maybe not so dramatic, but at least you've inspired them to do a crafty project or two.

Readers and blog friends...Tis the season to let someone special know how you feel about them. Let them know how they've inspired you and made a big or teeny difference in your life. I must say, because of blog land I to have been inspired greatly. Sometimes, when I really don't feel like blogging, I read about everyone's day, or projects, or new babies and homes and that alone, puts a smile on my face.

Thanks for reading, and following and letting me inspire you if that's what I have done.

In My Backyard

It's crazy how I have lived in the same city for 31 years and continue to discover new things. This weekend we went downtown to Wynwood. Historically, Wynwood has been known as a very bad neighborhood, full of drugs and violence. Not anymore. Slowly but surely, Wynwood has become home to many museums, art galleries and restaurants and is currently known as the art district. My favorite thing about this part of town is the graffiti. I'm not talking about scribble scrabble graffiti...oh no my friends, I'm talking about this.

The artwork is amazing! Look at the details on these walls.

If you're ever in town, you should definitely visit!

Let's Play Dress Up

I love Halloween! My favorite part about it, dressing up. I love doing my make-up and hair and wearing sassy outfits. This year we dressed up as a soldier and his pin-up girl.

It was a simple little costume... I just had a really hard time finding the right top, so I made it!

Hi friends,

Hope everyone is enjoying the crisp fall weather. It went down to the 60's here this weekend so I thought it would be nice to bring out some fall-halloweeny decor. By that I mean, I made a wreath and carved a pumpkin. That's as extensive as we got!

Easiest and fastest wreath I've made to date. I bought a branch wreath at Michaels, slapped on some spiderwebs and a couple of spiders....Ta-da!

Someone was quite excited to carve a pumpkin this year...

I wanted to get creative but BF wanted to stick to the traditional Jack-O-Lantern.

They Say It's Your Birthday

31 now. Ouch. This one hurt way more than 30. Maybe because I'm now into the over 30 bracket?! I'm not complaining, life is good right now. Especially after I got all these yummy gifts from my friends and family. Nothing like a bunch of presents to ease the birthday blues.

Most of all, I am thankful for my friends and family and all their eternal love and support

{the gifts don't hurt either}.

Yep, still alive. I apologize for the lack of posts. I have so many things to share with you all I don't know where to begin. I will say I have some especially exciting news to share soon about my future, but can't do it just yet. No, I'm not getting married nor am I pregnant. Nonetheless, it will be good!

On another just as exciting note, my best friend IS pregnant and she's having a baby girl! This beautiful woman has been my best friend for about 15 years, she's basically my sister. It's surreal to see her pregnant belly, and a little annoying to see her perfect body not changing a bit except looking like she swallowed a softball. Anyhow, in preparation for her Coco Chanel themed shower, I came up with an inspiration board.

I can't wait to start putting everything together, it's going to be fabulous!

Also got a cute and short haircut in celebration of my 31st birthday (which is tomorrow)! Here's the back...

Everytime I go this short, it actually makes me want to go shorter! Soon my friends, soon!

Las Vegas: The Grand Canyon

Major highlight of our Vegas trip was the helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon. I was definitely scared to take a ride over the Grand Canyon, but I put my big girl panties on and went with it. If you've even ridden in a helicopter and are a bit sensitive to motion, you can understand my pain. However, despite the intense heat and nausea, it was worth it.

The trip to the Canyon was about 45 minutes {about 4 hours via car}. The views were incredible!

That's the cameraman aka my BF, he took some great video!

After the 45 minute trip, the helicopter landed at the bottom of the Canyon at the foot of the Colorado River. Which as you can see, is quite muddy. Don't really want to swim in that, despite the sweltering heat.

The helicopter company provided us with a light lunch and champagne. I skipped out on the lunch but definitely chugged some champagne to ease the nerves.

On the way back we had an exquisite view of the Hoover Dam and Lake Meade.

Before closing this post, I must share what happened to me as I was disembarking from the helicopter. First, let me remind you that it was about 110 degrees, and that I'm claustrophobic, and that there were 6 people in the helicopter. Are you visualizing it? Oh and wait, one of the passengers threw up in a bag on the way back and the stench took over the helicopter. OK, so as soon as we landed you can imagine my desperation to get out of the chopper. The pilot came around to open the door, I stepped out but missed the rail, stepped through it and fell back, off the helicopter about 3 feet. As you can suspect, it was very painful and I scored a huge bruise on the back of my thigh. Not too mention, as the days of the trip went on, more bruises came to life and pain in places I rather not even discuss with you. Go ahead, laugh it up. God know the BF and I did.

It was a bitter sweet trip to the Canyon but we loved every minute!

Las Vegas: The Hotel

Annndddd we're back! Anyone still out there?

Can I tell you I haven't stopped obsessing about our hotel since we got back? It was amazing to say the least. Literally, I've dreamt about it every night for the past week.

We stayed at the Wynn. Surprisingly, I scored a great deal online because this hotel is expensive! I don't know how we got it so cheap, but shhhhh....maybe we slipped through the cracks.

The best part of the room were the automated blinds. See that little black box on the nightstand? From there, you can turn on/off the lights, open/close the blinds, set the privacy setting on the room {which displayed on a screen outside of the room} and adjust the A.C. Way fancy huh?

The hotel was glamorous, classy and HUGE. I'm sure there are places inside we missed.

One place we did get to see was Blush at the hotel. The floor of the nightclub lights up and so does the bar, and the lights on the ceiling change colors to. Breathtaking!

I was lucky enough to visit the spa for a massage. This is the jacuzzi area, with two private jacuzzis on the side. I didn't get to snap many pictures, I only took my cell phone. Would have looked a little weird in a robe with my big ol' Canon.

I'm so happy we stayed at the Wynn. If we weren't for wanting venture out to see the other hotels, I would've have been perfectly content spending all our time inside the Wynn. There was no need to go elsewhere....And can we talk about eye candy? Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton....I was foaming at the mouth.

Get Outta Town

I am sooooo ready to get out of town, and I'll be doing that in just a few days. We're off to Las Vegas for some fun in the sun, hopefully without passing out from heat exhaustion. I heard it's been pretty hot up there!

Here's where you fabulous readers come in. I need recommendations! Restaurants, shows, nightclubs, bars, shops...everything and anything that you can think of to help a sista' out.

There are so many amazing restaurants and chefs in Las Vegas that, even after my intense research, I can't choose!

Can't wait to see what you all recommend!

Mango Mania

Hi loves! Happy Friday! Anyone else have mangos coming out of their arse like me? I get them from grandpa, grandma, aunts, uncles and co-workers. It's mango season around here amigos.

After making a million mango shakes and attempting to make a mango salsa (fail), I had to do something else with the leftovers. In comes mango creme brulee, aka, FAT HEAVEN!

Let's start off with the ingredients:

5 large egg yolks

1/3 cup granulated sugar

1/8 teaspoon salt

1 vanilla extract (substituted for vanilla bean)

2 cups heavy cream

1 1/2 cups diced (1/4-inch) firm-ripe mango (from 1 1/2 pounds)

3 tablespoons turbinado sugar such as Sugar in the Raw

If you have a stand mixer, whip that out to. If you don't, get one immediately, it makes life so much easier.

Start off by whisking together the yolks, sugar, and salt until combined well.

I substituted the vanilla bean for vanilla extract. I couldn't find any vanilla beans at Publix so I did it my way. If you want to use the vanilla bean, use this recipe.

Heat the cream over moderate heat until hot but not boiling and add about a teaspoon of vanilla extract.

Then add cream to egg mixture in a slow stream, whisking until combined.

Here's the fun part. Spoon 1/4 cup mango into each ramekin (I love ramekins, they're so teeny tiny).

Laddle custard over mango and fill each ramekin as below.

Arrange ramekins in a roasting pan and bake in a hot water bath in middle of oven until custards are just set, 35 to 40 minutes.

Transfer custards with tongs to a rack to cool, then chill, uncovered, at least 4 hours.

Sprinkle turbinado sugar evenly over custards and broil in a shallow baking pan 5 to 7 inches from heat until sugar is caramelized, 2 to 3 minutes.

Wish I would've snapped a picture upon serving, but I didn't because we ate them to darn quick!

School Is For Fools

It has been a crazy couple of weeks! I recently made a major decision and my world is little messy right now. I decided to go back to school. Talk about stressful! I guess your brain retires after 7 years of no school work. I've enrolled in the MBA program at Florida International University and have been studying by bootay off.

I completely forgot the effort and sacrifice it takes to go to school while working full time. Actually full time and overtime in a job that requires 110% of you 24/7/365. The sacrifices include less yoga, less cooking, less working out, less TV, less quality time with my love, less quality time with my family, fewer beach days, fewer all nighters, fewer happy hours...wait, why am I doing this again? Oh right, because I feel like I've reached my maximum potential as a paralegal, and I want more.

So bare with me, as my posts are few and far between. I will check in sporadically just to let you know I'm still breathing. Say a little prayer for me!

Road Trip

Hope everyone had a great and safe 4th of July weekend. We took a short road trip up to Ft. Myers Beach with my bestie and her boytoy.

The ride up was not too promising. We were hit with pretty bad thunderstorms the first two days there.

Unfortunately, we didn't get to enjoy the water right away, but we did manage to find other ways to keep entertained.

We made smores...

...and we played scrabble.

We also had a nice few rounds of Taboo and the girls beat the boys "dirty" style.

We woke up to beautiful day on Sunday and headed over to Sanibel Beach.

It was way hot and what better to stay cool than with an ice cold beer.

We did lots of planking {yes, we planked, google it if you don't know what I'm talking about}

And we partied...

Finally, what's a road trip without a stop at Cracker Barrel? So DELISH.

It was a great weekend in amazing company.

Back in Time

A very good friend of mine turned the "big 30" last week.

As part of her birthday celebration, she threw an 80's party, which seems to be all the rage lately.

I personally, was very excited to channel my inner Madonna and dress to the theme.

Looks like my bestie was just as excited, here we are.

Luckily for us, Forever 21 is all about the 80's lately.

I bought the lace top and purple spandex skirt and paired them with a pair of leggings I already owned.

Threw on some high socks and my converse and I was ready to go.

Talk about tacky and funky, who used to dress like this?

Nothing was matching and talk about the exaggeration of jewelry!

Don't really know who, or what era, the BF was channeling. I think he did a great job of portraying Kinicky in Grease...So not 80's! At least he had a members only jacket!

What Not to Wear

You've been asking for it, so here it is. Another edition of What NOT to Wear by She Who Reinvents.

Pet peeve: wedge flip flops. I hate them and I think they're trashy.

Besides, flip-flops are ONLY for the beach people.

Also needs to go one size up on those shorts she's sporting.

I'm all about the sporty look. I often hang around after the gym on the weekends in my gym clothes. However, I do not sport Adidas warm-up pants with flat cute sandals. Either throw on some sneakers, or some jeans if you want to keep the sandals on.

Jesus sandals is what I call them.

Nothing at all against Jesus, but grown men do not need to wear sandals. Especially these sandals.

Again, keep the sandals for the beach.

Where do I begin? The denim overalls?

The thong puiblicly displayed for all to see?

The clog sandals? So bad. So, so, bad.

Not quite sure what's going on here. Sandals with socks is a definite no-no.

Maxi skirt with oversized shirt-eh, not so much!

As I was laying in savasana last night in yoga class I could feel the tension rising. I know what you're thinking...One is not supposed to be tense during savanasa. What brought upon this tension you ask? The same thing that makes me tense every yoga class during savasana. You see, I don't know if it's a world wide yoga thing, but in my part of town during savasana the teacher comes around with either a lavender oil, spray or creme, sometimes it's a towel, and either puts their hands over your face with the said oil, spray or creme, or sometimes, and this is when it gets really good, they touch your temples. Don't get me wrong, I am all about the lavender during savasana. I'm also totally not phased by the occasional touching of the temples with the oil. However, what makes me tense during savasana is waiting for my turn to be touched {ohhh that sounds dirty}. Is the teacher going to spray me with something, or is he/she going to touch my temples? Am I going to flinch? Open my eyes? Twitch? Is that her I hear approaching me? What if I don't hear her? Well, tonight as I lay in savasana I didnt hear any footsteps coming my way. Then, the inevitable happened. The teacher reached down and touched my temples in such silence that, well, it scared the shit out of me. Embarrassing, to say the least. Comforting me the teacher laughed and said, "it happens all the time." It happens all the time? So I ask you this yogis and yoginis of the world, if it happens all the time, shouldn't we come up with something less disruptive, or am I the only freak?

Any mishaps during your yoga class you want to share? I've heard all kind of weird stories. Do tell!

A Book Review {Or Two}

I've recently read two excellent books that I wanted to share with you. First one is Little Bee by Chris Cleave which was recommend by Erin. She has yet to steer me wrong on a book recommendation so I thought I would check it out. HOLY CRAPPOLA (for lack of a better word, or two). It's usually hard for me to pick up a book without knowing what it's about. The vague details on the back cover give no insight to the devastating events that take place in this story. If you're like me, you will have a hard time not googling the ending, or at least scavenging the internet for some details. Trust me, don't. It's so worth reading it with an open mind and an open heart {and a box of tissues}. The author captured me immediately with his details and emotions which you can feel through the pages. It's heart wrenching, riveting, honest and sad. Very, very sad, but so good. I promise, you will be captured. It's an amazing tale of how life is one big circle, all humans are connected in some way, and how sometimes, no matter what we do for others, destiny will take its course.

On a lighter note, the second book is one I'm sure you've all read, Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. I was desperately in need of chick lit after Little Bee to bring me back to my happy place. This book did the trick. I usually don't like to see a movie without reading the book first so I went ahead and devoured this one to. The novel depicts a young, spineless {in my opinion} women who never gets what she wants because she basically let's people steal her happiness. Enter {angels singing} super best friend with hot fiance, great job and all the social skills "spineless" fails to possess. Spineless gets tired of super best friend stealing her thunder and well.....a yummy story unveils of love, unfaithfulness and a nice big slap in the face. You will enjoy!

Wedding Bells

Hi gang! Welcome back to reality. Hope everyone had a fantastic and relaxing weekend. I've been on vacation since Thursday for much needed down time and last minute wedding preparations. On Thursday my parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at their house and it was a huge success. I'll post pictures on that later. For now, let me introduce the handsome Groom and the beautiful Bride.

The wedding was flawless! My brother looked gorgeous and the bride was truly breathtaking.

The ceremony was held on the grounds of a beautiful church in Miami. The seating was actual rocks and the big trees made a canopy over the entire ceremony. We couldn't have asked for better weather.

Nooks

I failed miserably again this morning at capturing the true color of my new paint.

It's been cloudy around these parts and the lighting is just not working for me.

In the meantime, some of you have been asking to see better pictures of the color,

which I've forgotten to mention is Dix Blue by Farrow and Ball, color matched to Behr Primer and Paint (best paint ever).

I'm terrible at styling anything so here's a failed attempt at styling my bar cart.

I'm in the search of a vintage barset to adorn the bar. I've spotted a few on Ebay that may work.

Here's little space in my kitchen where I added my new elephant print. I love elephants, and they're supposed to bring good luck. These two elephants seems to be in love <3.

I purchased the print from Two Sarahs on Etsy.

She has the cutest prints and they're really good quality, you should check her out.

My brother's wedding is finally here. Well, in 5 days! I'm so excited and nervous, really can't wait!

I'm scheduled to pick up my bridesmaids dress this afternoon. I went for my final fitting last week and the dress is absolutely gorgeous. It is a remake of this J Helm dress but in a very hot pink beautiful fabric.

These are the shoes we will be wearing. Good choice by the bride, I'm loving all things nude right now!

On another note, I picked up a paint roller this weekend and here is the result.

I'm absolutely obsessed with the new color!

It's definitely a lot more green IRL but I will take better pictures in the daylight tomorrow.

Let's talk about fitting rooms for a minute. It's a major pet peeve of mine when the fitting rooms don't have enough hangers. Or, how bad is it with they're just plain gross and the mirrors are foggy or what not?

Usually happens at budget hot spots like Marshalls.

Well, let me tell you something...My local Marshalls spruced theirs up.

I went on a teeny shopping trip last night and headed towards Nordstram Rack (if you don't have one near you, I suggest you get one) and Marshalls. Check out Marshall's fitting room.

Love the wall rack to hang tons and tons of clothes without them falling allover the floor.

How fabulous are these? Definitely....Possibly...The need to add one that says HELL NO!

I stayed home all day yesterday relaxing. These past few weeks have been crazy busy at work and socially as well. So in my down time yesterday, I whipped up these yummys.

I borrowed the recipe from Hi Sugar Plum and made about a dozen cupcakes.

With the leftover batter, I made the cake.

Light, fluffy and delicious. Strawberry heaven! Do yourself a favor and make a batch!

State of Emergency

I am officially declaring my apartment in a state of emergency. At least, my new couch has arrived.

I'm completely indecisive as to whether I want to paint or not.

I've received tons of emails telling me to leave the black. What my fans want, my fans get.

Here's my issue with the black wall. I feel like it's too hard and cold. My living room doesn't feel cozy to me. I definitely want to change the art on the wall, something warmer, vintage maybe? I also want to add a sisal rug underneath the cowhide rug. And of course, lots and lots of pillows.

What do you guys think? Paint? Don't paint? Rug? Mirrors? New art?

Shades of Blue

I'm torn between 3 shades of blues.

The third one is my favorite, Benjamin Moore Dartmouth Blue, but will probably resemble the color of my new couch (which is scheduled to arrive on Saturday).

#1 and #2 are tied. Love the softness of # 1 (Benjamin Moore, Egg's blue) but, #2 is just like BAM! It's Benjamin Moore Electric Blue, the color of Carrie's apartment in Sex and the City the movie.

I'm not going to make the final decision until I compare it with the couch of course.

What are your opinions?

Arabian Nights

I made it through the first event of my brother's wedding, the bridal shower. As I mentioned here , the bride requested a Moroccan theme. Here's as Moroccan as I could get.

I bunched up a few nag champa incense sticks with a peacock feather and

that was the take home favor for the quests.

The tables were set with turquoise lanterns and purple linens with gold overlays.

Little pink votives adorned the table for some extra sparkle.

The bridal shower was held at Maroosh, a Mediterranean restaurant in Coral Gables. We couldn't have picked a better location. The food was delicious and as you can see, appropriately themed.

The cake tasted as good as it looked. I picked up that Moroccan little box at

Homegoods so guests can leave the bride a lsweet note.

Overall, I think the shower was a huge success... What's next? The bachelorette party this weekend!

Feeling Blue

So, we got the lorimer sectional from West Elm, in dove gray. It's not set to arrive until two weeks from now. I'm so excited! In the meantime, I've been browsing the web trying to decide what color I'm going to paint the apartment. I keep coming back to blue. Blue is fresh, light and calming. Exactly what I'm looking for. The time has finally come to purchase a new sofa. The hand me down sofa currently in my living room is just not working for me. Although it's nice to look at, it's way to uncomfortable and small (especially for watching late night movies).

I've been doing quite a bit of browsing online and really haven't found anything perfect. However, I do love this little number from West Elm, the Lorimer sectional. I've been looking for somewhat of a sectional but, one with a chaise lounge. Again, since we're looking for movie watching comfort here people.

Considering that my apartment is small, I think the lower and the latter

are my best options. Very affordable to. This one is the Blake sectional.

I will let you know this weekend on my decision. Guess what's next? Painting. Once I decide on the sofa, I want to paint the apartment and the back of my new bookshelf. Stay tuned!

I've been searching high and low for the perfect pair of nude shoes for spring.

Too pink, too expensive, too much shoe, I just couldn't settle for one. Until I found these on Piperlime.

They're Mark & James for Badgley Mischka and they're just fabulous.

I am completely and utterly obsessed with them. I received them in the mail today and I can't stop looking at them. It's been a long time since I've loved a pair of shoes this way.

I was a little hesitant when ordering because I thought they would be lose on my ridiculously skinny ankles. Luckily, they fit perfectly and I will be rocking them this weekend.

Campaign

Finally, something worthy of posting. I'm still in shock that I was actually able to find the coveted campaign dresser on Craigslist. I had to drive an hour and a half but, it was totally worth it.

The huge TV? Yes, that's what happens when a boy moves in.

I originally planned on only getting the dresser, but when I arrived the seller had the bureau with the hutch also, and I just couldn't pass it up. I thought about painting it, but I just can't bring myself to ruin the wood. It's in great condition. This weekend, I will shine up the hardware.

Oh, and do something about the bookshelf display.

Hi Stalkers,

I'm alive. Stressed {in a good way} and so busy, but alive. I finally received the Eames rocker from HauteLook that I been waiting for, for like 3 months. Do I love it? Eh. Someone should have told me it's like 2 feet tall and made especially for the munchkins from Munchkin Land. It's cute, but definitely moving into an office or nursery one day.

I'm not a collector, but I do love the latte bowls from Anthro. I grab a few whenever they're on sale. Food just tastes better in them, especially ice cream. Check out my Picnik editing skills. If you're not familiar with Picnik, check it out asap.

Not one to usually post "what I wore," I just had to post this dress. It's from Forever 21 and it was cheap and so cute. I received tons of compliments when I wore it and I wanted to let you guys in on it. Get it here .

I'm sure you've noticed I did a little redecorating on the old bloggity blog. It needed a little pick me up. Thanks to the sweet and talented Lindsey , here you have it and I'm loving it.

On another note, I'm in full planning mode for my brother's wedding. It is after all, in only 3 months! Next up is the bridal shower. The bride-to-be has requested a Moroccan theme, so here we go.

First up, invitations. I'm in love with the first one and ready to order. However, I am not the only bridesmaids so I'm waiting for the others to decide.

The cake is pretty much picked out already, see below. The colors are going to be purple and aqua, in an effort to steer away from their wedding colors of pink and orange.

Here are a few inspiration pictures I found while cruising the net. This first one is absolutely perfect and I would love to recreate it.

Thinking about having someone come out and do henna. Anyone know how long that lasts? I would hate for the bride to have to deal with that so close to the wedding.

I apologize for my absence around here. I have been so busy and I have so much to tell you about I don't know where to begin.

Let's start with my new obsession, yoga. It's not really a new obsession because I've always been into it, remember this? Lately though, I've become a regular in my practice and I am in love. I stepped it up to the intermediate class last week and executed my first head stand. Exhilarating... I'm looking forward to class tomorrow although my shoulders are still a little sore from last week. Thanks to EOS I found an amazing blog and I've ordered two new books here and here . Thinking about attending this amazing Yoga for Foodies retreat in Napa in June. Sounds scrumptious! Speaking of yoga...For all you yogis out there you should check out Passport to Prana. Passport to Prana entitles you to one yoga class at each of the participating yoga studios. Just buy the card for $30 and look up your city to check out the participating studios.

I have a ghost chair coming in from eBay today. It's for my new desk in my bedroom. Can't wait to unwrap it and take loads of pictures for you guys. I can't believe I'm just about done with that room. I guess it's about time considering my lease is up in 5 months and I'm probably not renewing it. Looking for something bigger and better and excited about the possibility of decorating a new place. AGAIN.

Not to happy with HauteLook I have to say. Remember this great steal? Well, it was supposed to be delivered last week and I received an email yesterday with their sincerest apologies that my item won't arrive until late February, early March. Hello??? Are you people insane? Don't they understand I'm an instant gratification kind of girl?

Finally, Machy is in a contest. Yep, cutest dog in the world contest. I'm kidding. I've actually entered him in the Bissell's MVP Photo Contest. I'll ask for your votes tomorrow, since that's when the voting begins so stay tuned.

Chicken & {peppers} & {onions} & {hummus}=healthy

Here's an easy peasy recipe that takes no time at all.

1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2) Chop one red onion, one red pepper and about four chicken breasts into bite size pieces.

3) Season everything in a bowl with salt, pepper, cumin and coat with olive oil.

4) Place in a ziploc bag for about half an hour or so. If you don't have half an hour then just spread out the mixture on a baking pan.

5) Cook for about half and hour, broiling for the last 3 minutes.

6) Serve chicken over hummus with brown rice, or spinach salad like I did.

Enjoy a healthy and delicious dinner!

A few updates to my apartment that I wanted to share with you. I bought the Twine Lamp CB2 this weekend and I'm in love. The lamp shade is ginormous! I think I'm just about done with this room except for the midecentury rocker I ordered from HauteLook. Once that arrives I may have to do some rearranging of furniture.
For now, I'm happy with it.

New Camera

As I mentioned in my previous post, I got a Canon Rebel EOS for Christmas! I love it!! I've been snapping pictures left and right. Not that great of pictures might I add. It's trickier than I thought and I really want to learn to shoot in full manual.

Poor little Machy is my muse. He won't even look at me anymore

when I call his name afraid I might snap another picture.

I plan on taking a photography for beginners class at the

community college nearby to learn a few tricks.

Pimp My Ride

My lease was up a few weeks ago and it was time to get a new car. This was not an easy task. I had a budget that I wanted to stick to and of course, all the cars I love our out of my budget. I did lots of car shopping, every weekend for about a month to be exact. When I still didn't see anything I liked within my budget I decided to take a jab at a car I've loved for years. Off to the Infiniti dealer I went. To say they laughed in my face when they heard my budget was an understatement. But, I fought. And fought. And fought. For three hours. Let me tell you, I got pretty close to my budget, they only had to lower the payment $10! But they didn't, so I walked out.

Fast forward a month. Still no car. Car shopping I went again. Still nothing. With my head down and tail between my legs, I went back to Infiniti. Guess what? They budged on the $10 and look what I got... The best Christmas present. Ever.

Totally in love with the car. The way it drives and the smell of that brand new leather.

I've learned a very important lesson here people....patience pays.

A Resolution

It was 38 degrees this morning! Someone was very cold and sleepy.

I'm back from a few days relaxing with the family, opening gifts and buying a new car. The new car part wasn't so relaxing but totally worth it {more on that tomorrow}. It was a great Christmas and I'm really looking forward to a new year.

If you're a devotee to my humble little blog, you know this year started off a little rough, to say the least. However, time does heal all things and I'm excited about 2011 and a fresh new start.

A few resolutions I'll be making this year:

1. Save $$. This seems to be #1 on my list each year. I did pretty good in 2010, let's see if I can do better in 2011.

2. Buy property. Next year may or may not be the time to buy property in Miami. If it's time, you better believe I'm allover it.

3. Exercise and meditate at least 4 times a week. I'm pretty good about this one. It's about the only resolution that I keep year after year.

4. Be happy.

No, not because someone may recognize themselves on the blog, I'm not afraid of that. It's just that it's not that easy to take a picture of someone without them noticing. What Not to Wear

We all love Glamour magazine's Do's and Dont's right? Well today I'm bringing you a whole lot of don'ts. I'm introducing a new weekly {or as often as possible} feature on this blog called What Not to Wear. It's basically a collection of photos I've snapped with my trusty iPhone of definite don'ts. My original plan was to feature both do's and don'ts, but I'm having a really hard time capturing any do's. So without further ado, here's the first batch of victims.

Demin overalls. Really? We're talking about what-early 90's here? They remind me of a painter, or some kind of construction worker. Instead op for a cute romper or something if you want to have that onesie effect. Seems like she also needs a better fitting bra.

Sneakers with dress pants. This is a major pet peeve of mine There are so many comfortable alternatives to heels like ballerina flats for example. Lose the sneakers, unless you're hitting the gym.

So many wrong things about this photo. Those black socks you see there, they're dress socks. You know for like suits and trousers. Dude, you're at the gym. Ever heard of ankle socks? Let's not even discuss the board shorts with the tucked in t-shirt.

Ass-Crack. Enough said.

Giving Thanks

As Thanksgiving approaches and the holiday cheer is near, I am feeling more grateful than ever. It has been a surprising, complicated, rough and amazing year all in one. I honestly could not have gotten through it without some of these things:

My family. I only have one word for them: supportive. Actually, I have two words for them- supportive and understanding. They have stood by me 100% through every decision I have made this year. I love them and live for them every single day. Without them, I am nothing.

My friends. Again, so supportive (and completely non-judgmental). Two of the best human beings I have ever met. They are my forever friends and the older we get the more we understand and accept each other exactly the way we are.

Machy. I know completely cheesy but he says so much, without saying anything at all. He makes me smile every single day {I'm pathetic I know, maybe it's time for a baby?}

My job. In times like these, who isn't going to be grateful for their job, which provides a roof and a full belly day in and day out.

Blog friends. Again, another group of such supportive beings. Thank you.

Special Someone. Words can't begin to describe the support, the generosity, the understanding and the happiness this person has provided. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

It's so difficult to choose especially when I get caught up in all the cute babies they use on their cards! I can't wait to order and send them out. I love receiving photo cards from my friends and family!

I Feel Like A Cat

I played with yarn last night. For THREE hours while making this.

It wasn't hard, just tedious. I kept getting the yarn all knotted up. Anyone have tips on how to not let that happen? The flowers were very easy and I can't wait to make more!

I chose light pink, hot pink, gray and white for my color scheme. I wanted to incorporate the wreath into my holiday decor for this year and I think I'm going the major-girly route.

I borrowed the idea from Joi, who borrowed it from Lindsay.

You guys should try it!

Am I the last to know? An H&M opened up in Palm Beach, Florida about 60 miles from me. Yes, it's still ridiculously far but who's not going to drive an hour north for some cute, trendy and cheap clothes? I know I will. Probably this weekend! In love with these great pieces.

First of all, I love the Essie nail polish I posted about yesterday. Here's a picture but you can't really see the hint of navy. It's absolutely fabulous in the sun.

Second, I'm trying to let my hair grow. I'm reeaally, reeaally trying but, I don't know how much longer I can go. You don't understand, I love short hair and have had it all my life. I'm actually liking the length right now but I'm so impatient. Here's my hair in its current state.

Someone's going on a trip and guess who it is? ME! I will be visiting my absolute favorite place in the world {well, in the country} New York city. I am ready to freeze my booty off and stuff my belly. I have special request from my New Yorkers out there: restaurant recommendations. Halloween Dinner

Getting together with a few friends this weekend to make our Halloween costumes. I am going to be wonder woman this year {more on that later}. I want to set the Halloween mood by making some scary treats and spooky drinks. They've ganged up on me to play some scary movies as well but I'm such a chicken I won't sleep for days. I have to think about that for a bit...

Browsing through recipes and decor ideas, I found so many creative options. Some way beyond my creativity skills, but I think I can manage a few of these.

Drink: The Pumpkin Pie

Ingredients:

1 part Kahlua

1 part spiced pumpkin pie filling

2 parts Malibu rum

4 parts light vanilla ice cream

4 ice cubes
Garnish with cinnamon

Put everything but the cinnamon in a blender and mix on high. Serve in graham-cracker crust highball glass with cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Appetizer: Bandaged Fingers. I love, love, love this. So easy and scccaaarryyy....

Ingredients:
6 large flour tortillas
36 cocktail wieners
Ketchup

Directions :Preheat the oven to 350°. With a sharp paring knife, trim a wide, flat, 45-degree cut from one end of each wiener to make a fingernail. Slice each tortilla into 6 strips about an inch wide and wrap 1 strip around each finger, starting just below the cut. Place the fingers on a baking sheet with the loose edges tucked underneath and put a dollop of ketchup on each nail. Bake for 10 minutes, until hot and lightly browned.

Entree: Devlized Chorizo Chili

Ingredients:

2 1/2 pounds uncooked chorizo sausages in natural casing
1 pound ground lean beef
2 large onions, chopped
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 cans (7 oz. each) diced green chiles
1/4 cup chili powder
1 teaspoon ground chipotle chiles
2 teaspoons chopped fresh oregano
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups (12 oz.) ale or other hearty beer
2 cans (15 oz. each) yellow hominy, drained
Salt

Preparation:
1. Squeeze sausages from casings into a 6- to 8-qt. pan over high heat; discard casings. Add beef, onions, and garlic. Stir occasionally over high heat, breaking sausages and beef into small pieces, until meat is browned and onion is soft, about 10 minutes. Spoon off and discard fat.
2. Add green chiles, chili powder, chipotle chiles, oregano, and cumin. Cook, stirring, 1 minute.
3. Stir in tomatoes, ale, and hominy. Bring to a boil; reduce heat, cover, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add salt to taste.

Another year, another birthday. This year, it's different though. It's my 30th birthday. It's not only different {and scary} because it's the big 3-0, it's different because I'm different. Looking back to last years birthday, so many things have changed. In just one year. Amazing.

Today I am grateful for my family and my friends. I am grateful for my courage and independence. I am grateful for my health and my career.

Looking forward to leaving my 20's behind and embracing my 30's. Don't they say 30's are the new 20's anyway? I hope so!

Just received this beautiful fabric I ordered from Premier Prints, Inc.

It is absolutely gorgeous IRL. The fabric is a medium-linen with cream and charcoal stripes. Not your traditional chevron pattern as the lines are big and wide. LOVE IT. More pics to come tonight of the fabric and my updated living room.

Almost Ready For Fall

Despite the fact that it's 85 degrees right now in South Florida, I did a little fall shopping this weekend. Fall is absolutely my favorite season for fashion. Unfortunately, down here we don't get fall weather until about December but I'm ready anyway.

I purchased skinny gray cargo pants from LOFT which, I just checked the website and they're $20 off!

I also purchased a cute leopard top from Zara.

I almost, almost purchased a pair of lace up booties, but hesitated. My legs are on the skinny side and they just don't look right. I am in love with them though, and I might just do it. Love these!

People, a decision has been made. I am going with the CB2 Peekaboo table for my living room. Thank you all for your comments and suggestions, the decision amongst you guys was actually split. I've decided to go with the lucite table because honestly, I have been lusting over it {sooooooo} long, I feel like I owe it to myself. Also, I feel like the gold one is just not the vibe I'm going for.

Off to CB2 I will go this weekend. I will also make a pit stop at Ikea to finally purchase counter stools. I've searched high and low for something that I love and honestly, I've come to the realization that I'm not really a fan of counter/bar stools. However, in my apartment they are a necessity so I'm pretty sure one of these will be coming home with me soon.

I'm torn and I need your help. I can't seem to choose a coffee table. Ok, that's not entirely true, I've chosen two coffee tables and I don't know which one I love more.

For a long time now I've been lusting over the CB2 Peekaboo Table. My original plan was to purchase it for my apartment. Especially keeping into consideration that my apartment is small.

In comes this fabulous table from Nate Berkus for HSN. Ah! Thanks a lot Nate for causing indecisiveness!

Here's where you guys come in. What would you do? I'm leaning towards Nate's table but I'm concerned it's just going to be an overload of gold (with the gold mirrors and all).

My apartment is coming along...slowly but surely. It takes a lot of work and a lot of $$$, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. I recently re-painted the black wall because it was a tad bit streaky. Not anymore!

I'm loving the intensity and richness of it. I also spray painted the two square mirrors in gold for a little face lift. I needed to take up more of the wall so I added them in with the sunburst mirrors. Up next? I want to create a hanging effect with the sunburst mirrors, somewhat like this.

I'll hopefully get to that this weekend. The coffee table and bar stools are on the way to!

My headboard is finally done and it's HUGE and I love it! It's exactly what I had envisioned for the space.

I wish I had DIY instructions for you guys, but who am I kidding? This is was not a DIY headboard. I watched my dad make this and damn- he's a professional!

Now that the headboard is in place, I can finish off the room. So much fluffing to get done...See ya soon!

Eat This

I was eagerly counting down the days to my vacation last night, and realized I only have 20something days left 'till I'm lounging out in the Caribbean. What does that mean? Time to kick this little booty into shape!Realistically speaking, time to drop a few pounds just to make room for the poundage I'm sure to gain on vacation. It's a little trick I play on my mind so that when I return and weigh myself, I haven't gained a pound. Don't judge.

That being said, I've started a diet. If you know me well, you know I am totally anti-diet. I strongly believe in eating healthy ALL THE TIME in order to never have to diet. I'm not being a total hypocrite on starting this diet because it's not really a diet-diet. It's called the Abs Diet, found here.

The recipes seem easy to prepare, quick to cook and rather tasty. From now until I leave on vacation, I've decided to start a series called Eat This. I will try out each of these recipes and blog about it, hopefully encouraging all of you try to these and see how eating healthy can be yummy. I know, I know I sound like a freakin' health magazine or something.

Anyway, here goes nothing. The journey begins with Terra Ricotta {they have really cute names for all the recipes}...

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons of part-skim ricotta cheese
1 teaspoon of ready made roasted garlic
1 ready made flatbread
3/4 of pre-cooked chicken
3 tablespoons of fat-free shredded mozzarella cheese
Salt and pepper to taste

I switched out the ready-made ingredients and used fresh garlic and fresh chicken instead.
First I made the roasted garlic like this:

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
2. Peel away the outer layers of the garlic bulb skin, leaving the skins of the individual cloves intact. Using a knife, cut off 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of the top of cloves, exposing the individual cloves of garlic.
3. Place the garlic heads in a baking pan; muffin pans work well for this purpose. Drizzle a couple teaspoons of olive oil over each head, using your fingers to make sure the garlic head is well coated. Cover with aluminum foil. Bake at 400°F for 30-35 minutes, or until the cloves feel soft when pressed.
4. Allow the garlic to cool enough so you can touch it without burning yourself. Use a small small knife cut the skin slightly around each clove. Use a cocktail fork or your fingers to pull or squeeze the roasted garlic cloves out of their skins.

*Sorry no pics of the roasting process, my light bulb hadn't turned on yet-but here's my after.

Then I cut up the chicken breasts into strips, sprinkled a little salt and pepper and sauteed them in olive oil.

I then mixed the roasted garlic with the ricotta (and ate almost half with a spoon-yummo).

Finally I spread the ricotta-garlic mixture on a whole wheat tortilla, place the chicken and the mozzarella on over that and popped it in the oven for 5 minutes.

The result.

Really simple, really good and pretty healthy.

The work begins! Thankfully, there's not much to do since it's a rental and they handed me the condo in great condition. Of course, I had to throw a little paint on the wall and add my personal touches. Let's first take a look at the kitchen, which I failed to show you previously.

{Please excuse the mess my place is still a bit of a disaster}!

Loving the kitchen! Super spacious and great for cooking!

Next up, the family room. There's still so much to be done! I originally planned on putting the two sunburst mirrors over the couch and that's it, but obviously that's not enough. They look so puny there!

I'm thinking of loading that wall up with mirrors, all the way up to the ceiling. Something like this...

I also still need a side table, coffee table and bar stools. Thinking about these...

Here's the opposite wall in the family room. I hung the T.V. inside the media stand and used the top as a bookcase.

I would love to hang a few of the vintage travel posters that Camila blogged about today, over the media stand. Oh, and a plant next to the media stand to center the piece with the wall.

Movin' On Up

I'm beyond excited {and a little nervous about living on my own for the first time}, but I can't wait to decorate and share the progress with everyone!

Please meet my two new BFF's.

The first one I don't have an actual picture of, but I'm blogging from it right now. I am a proud owner of a MacBook. That's right, I'm no longer a PC. It's weird, to say the least, since I've been a PC forever, but I'm liking the change. Not to mention, it is so cute and chic.

My other BFF is my new dresser! It's an original Dixie piece from the 1950's. It's in mint condition and I'm completely in love with it.

My original plans were to paint it but, once I saw it I realized it doesn't need a paint job. I think it would be nice to keep it in it's original form.

Can't wait to put it to good use!
