State of Emergency

I am officially declaring my apartment in a state of emergency.  At least, my new couch has arrived.

I'm completely indecisive as to whether I want to paint or not.

I've received tons of emails telling me to leave the black.  What my fans want, my fans get.
Here's my issue with the black wall.  I feel like it's too hard and cold.  My living room doesn't feel cozy to me.  I definitely want to change the art on the wall, something warmer, vintage maybe? I also want to add a sisal rug underneath the cowhide rug.  And of course, lots and lots of pillows.

What do you guys think? Paint? Don't paint? Rug? Mirrors? New art?
I'm listening...

  1. My vote is to leave the wall dark and add a sisal rug under the cowhide to add some texture. The rug will also draw the room together and make it feel even more cozy.

  2. Paint! Black is amazing but I think a lighter color will be cozier. The rug will also help make it a warmer space.

  3. I would say leave the black, put down a sisal and add some floor length drapes.

  4. Personally, I say leave it black and bring in that sisal rug. I think it'll warm up pretty fast!

  6. I would absolutely paint...the black is cool but there's not much "cozy" to it. And I would go for a calming color. A blueish gray, or one of your light blues. And then add color in pictuers, pillows, curtains, accents. That's just what cozy is to me. Warm but calming! I love the couch!

  7. I would suggest leaving the black but adding softer artwork (the prints are lovely but the colors/hard lines are adding to the coldness) an soft floor length drapes. I'd also add another pillow or two to the couch - once it gets broken in it won't be as firm looking as well. The room is coming together really nice, stick with it!

  8. Personally I really like the black, BUT I don't have to live there. I do agree the room doesn't feel very "cozy" and I think the sisal rug will definitely help with that. It's a place to start, for sure, especially if you're hesitating on whether or not to paint. It's just that your style is really modern and cool and I think it's hard to inject a real feeling of comfort to that. I absolutely adore everything you've done in your space so far.

Oh and I agree with Katie; maybe some drapes would to the trick.

  9. Whats the color on the wall next to your floor lamp...the last swatch you put on the wall closest to the floor? It would look amazing in your room with the sofa, tile color, and your accessories. Please share that color!

  10. Darling, I love your decor and all your creative ideas, but I agree to make it cozier paint it blueish gray, change the wall art, add the rug and drapes and you'll get the charming and cozy feel you seek.

  11. Your space is nice and organized. I need you to come to my place and help me be neater. With the wall try to paint it a lighter color.
